It turns out that complaining will make a difference. It turns out that Chevrolet customers are just as smart as our car critics in half-hearted, uncompetitive attempts to identify truck interiors. Only three years later, General Motors took a very unusual step, redesigning and giving the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado a new interior design. It doesn't stop there, it applies cutting-edge new technology to almost every trim level, including one of the industry's first applications for Google's Android car operating system. The end result is that a truck is immediately more competitive than the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150, especially at the high end of its model lineup. When confronted with the world’s longhorns and King Ranch, its cabin is ridiculous. .

There are some important caveats here. First of all, we haven't seen the new Silverado with our own eyes, let alone driving it, so now we are just looking at pictures that are as beautiful as you. Secondly, the Work Truck, Custom and Custom Trail Boss interiors retain the old interior design and technology-given their lower prices, this may be no problem.

Finally, and most importantly, there are actually two different 2022 Silverados. The official version of the massive update shown here is the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, but it will not actually be available until the spring of 2022. At the same time, Chevrolet is selling the 2022 Silverado LTD, which is basically last year's truck, but equipped with the 2022 model year application. There are many reasons for this, but I just want to say that if you see a dilapidated cottage in the Highlands in 2022, this is the reason. This is a limited company.

Interior! It used to be bad; now it seems to have improved a lot in terms of aesthetics, material quality, and technology. You can see the difference above because both belong to Silverado LT. The new technology includes a 13.4-inch widescreen infotainment display running the Android car operating system. Another key change is the console-mounted shifter used in the five-seater model, instead of the column shifter reserved for the six-seater cab. There are also visual changes on the outside (the grille bow tie moves upward); GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system is now available in High Country; the 2.7-liter turbocharged engine can now produce 420 lb-ft of torque (over 5.3-liter V8); basic The 4.3-liter V6 engine is dead; the 3.0-liter diesel engine can be equipped with the Max Tow package, which enables it to tow 13,300 pounds, compared to 9,500 pounds last year.

There is also a new member of the series: Silverado ZR2. This off-road model is equipped with Multimatic DSSV spool valve shock absorbers, the same 2-inch lift as Trail Boss, but with more suspension travel, locking differential, skid plates, 33-inch tires and 11.2 inches of overall ground clearance. The front bumper has been redesigned and the exhaust tip has been repositioned to improve the approach and departure angles respectively. It includes a 6.2-liter V8, so it should not be considered a true Raptor or TRX competitor.

In 2022, Silverado received a new layout and updated materials starting from the LT decoration (the lower ones retain the ugly old interior design), which is a huge improvement. In addition to the aesthetics, the overhaul also includes a new 13.4-inch infotainment screen and 12.3-inch instrument display, all decorated, although there are different skins and software suites to accommodate different options. In addition to the new larger screen, the infotainment system is also one of the first systems in the industry to run the Android Automotive operating system. We have only briefly experienced this system on the GMC Hummer EV, but it is certainly promising.

The upper trim layer saw the biggest internal improvement because, frankly, they needed it. For example, instead of randomly tapping some convincing wood trim on the side of High Country's center console, the new version is a real deal. Oops, the new LT interior has a better quality atmosphere than the old High Country.

Now, we have not personally entered the new Silverado, so we can only say so much. Nevertheless, the picture is sufficient to show that the overhaul is a game changer.

Very big. But the same is true for all full-size pickups today. There are three cab configurations: a two-door ordinary cab with an 8-foot bed, a double cab with a four-door and 6.5-foot bed, and a larger four-door cab with a 6.5-foot or 5.8-foot bed. Foot bed. The ordinary cab is 229.5 inches long from the stern to the stern, while the double cab and crew compartment short box is only 2 inches long, and the crew compartment long box is 10 inches long.

Compared with most competitors, the Silverado has a higher bedside, which allows Chevrolet to get more cargo. You can also use GM's Multi-Flex tailgate shown on the top left to get it. The payload ranges from 2,130 pounds in a 4x4 cab to 2,280 pounds in a 4x2 ordinary cab. However, buyers who generally maximize payload should look at Silverado HD.

The vast majority of Silverados sold are in a four-door Crew Cab configuration with ample space in the rear seats. The rear seat cushion can also be flipped to help loading goods inside. It's easy to enter through the huge door, although you have to climb in to get in (even more so in the off-road-themed variant with raised suspension). The double cab is not too spacious, and the backrests of the rear seats are more upright (bottom left). The narrow rear door of the Double Cab suggests that its rear seats are used occasionally, but at least they are front hinged, not Ford's clumsy clamshell design. You can also see the six-seater configuration of the Silverado at the bottom left, which includes a front middle seat.

Silverado has a huge powertrain lineup, including four engines, three gearboxes, and of course 2WD and 4WD. Therefore, performance and fuel economy vary greatly.

The base engine is now a unique 2.7-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that can produce 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. This is a massive upgrade from last year's 72 pound-feet, much better than the 5.3-liter V8 engine. With an eight-speed automatic transmission, it is the standard power unit for most mid-range models and an optional upgrade to the basic WT and Custom. Fuel economy is estimated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for 2WD models at 20 mpg and 4WD at 18 mpg.

However, the most economical setting is a 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine, which has an EPA estimate of 26 mpg combined with 2WD and 24 mpg combined with 4WD. The diesel produces 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque—the latter is matched to the largest V8 engine.

Almost all Silverado interior levels are equipped with a 5.3-liter V8, which provides 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. However, fuel economy varies greatly because the engine can be paired with a six-speed, eight-speed, or 10-speed automatic transmission. Unlike last year, it only applies to GM's more advanced dynamic fuel management system (DFM). The result is that fuel economy ranges from 15 mpg for Trail Boss with a six-speed automatic transmission to 18 mpg with a 2WD/8-speed combination. This is a significant spread.

The 6.2-liter V8 is the top product, with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet. It is specifically paired with 10-speed automatic, 4WD and DFM. EPA estimates range from 14 mpg for people with mud tires to 17 mpg for the more road-bound version.

We have not yet driven the 2022 Chevy Silverado, so we cannot answer this question definitively. However, in addition to the new ZR2 and the significant improvement in torque of the turbocharged four-cylinder engine, General Motors has not announced that it should fundamentally change the Silverado driving style. At least in theory.

Therefore, this is what we have previously discovered in this generation of Silverado. We spent some time on the 5.3-liter Trail Boss and found that the engine works well with the eight-speed automatic transmission. Trail Boss' off-road tests demonstrated its muddy abilities, even though these abilities come at the cost of road comfort. We also used a different Silverado powered by a 6.2-liter large truck to tow the heavy load, and found that it is indeed stronger than a 5.3-liter truck, but you don’t exactly need it. 5.3 Powerful functions. As for that Turbo Four, we are already impressed with its ability to surpass its weight class before significant improvements. However, in the end, we may choose the Duramax diesel engine, which is powerful, quiet and very suitable for truck tasks.

Regardless of the engine, the Silverado's grip and steering left a deep impression on us. Despite its size, the Silverado is not cumbersome to drive. The handling is actually quite sensitive and feels more agile than its competitors' trucks. However, ride quality is a pain point. The LT double cab we tested is bounded on the sea during bumps, while other trims with larger wheels will produce annoying impact roughness and some rear axle bouncing when unloading the bed. The top-spec High Country is now equipped with adaptive shock absorbers, which can at least drive smoothly to a certain extent, but regardless of the version, it is expected that Ram and F-150 can drive better. Likewise, unless Chevrolet changed the suspension in some way and just didn't mention it. stay tuned.

This is our most comprehensive review of Silverado equipped with Duramax diesel engines. Although it can tow more in 2022, this is due to the availability of the Max Tow package rather than the actual changes in the engine.

This review covers several major variants of Silverado: the moderately equipped but highly sold LT trim and the extended double cab, and the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which has undergone a major update in 2022. You can also read more about the four-cylinder project in our Silverado 2.7-liter RST first drive review.

We chose the Silverado 1500 off-road vehicle that is most suitable for off-roading, and found it to be powerful, but there are some compromises.

This is a more comprehensive review of our 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8 engines (including when towing). We also provide in-depth details about the overall engineering and design of the new Silverado.

Although GMC has released initial pricing for its similarly overhauled 2022 Sierra, at the time of writing, Chevrolet has not done so for the Silverado. We expect the base price to be close to the $30,995 sticker for work trucks in 2021 or the base price of $32,495 for the 2022 GMC Sierra.

Once we obtain 2022 Silverado pricing and in-depth feature information, we will work hard to update this page. At the same time, you can find information about Silverado 1500 LTD's pricing, specifications and features here.

Much like pricing and feature information, we don’t know which security devices will be included in the revised 2022 Silverado. In the past, driver assistance equipment was optional and usually only available at higher trim levels. We will see if this will change.

In the crash test of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2021 Silverado Crew Cab received the highest score of "good" in all tests, but it received a "marginal" score in the "before small overlap: passenger side" test. This may change in 2022, and its headlight scores will also change. In the NHTSA crash test, last year's Silverado received an overall four-star rating (out of five), including four stars for frontal and rollover collision protection and five stars for side impact crashworthiness. These changes are slightly less likely.
